Dear Friends, Mary (not her real name) is one of the most dedicated Christians I know.  She is a lady who makes a practice of “rejoicing always”.  She has had plenty of experiences that are not easy to rejoice in, but her firm belief in Christ and the belief that “all things work together for good,” has enabled her to comfort others by the comfort that has been given her. Mary found herself in a mess after being deceived by a scam.  A couple of men in a foreign country, hacked into her email. Apparently they knew that she was a Christian by the emails she sent and received. They told her she had won the lottery, to which she replied she had not entered.  Mary does not gamble nor buy lottery tickets.  She was then told her email had been selected and she was to receive over a million dollars.  When she questioned the validity of the prize, they assured her that this was for real and that they were Christians and wouldn’t scam anyone.  She was told she needed to contact a certain banker who informed her that this wasn’t a lottery, but was an inheritance from an employee in Europe who had not named any beneficiaries. Mary’s daughter warned her that this was a scam, but the banker was very convincing and she listened to him.  Mary is a very giving person and supports many missionaries and Christian organizations.  She was excited about the opportunity to give generously to the Lord’s work. Money was required of Mary for a variety of things in order to collect the inheritance. Just when she thought it had come to the end, she would be informed of another monetary requirement.  The banker at times put in money to help (so he said) which Mary was to pay back when she receive her inheritance. His willingness to contribute money convinced her that the inheritance was for real. The family kept trying to talk to Mary but she would not listen to them – the banker had her convinced.  Mary had told the lord if it wasn’t His will that she did not want it to go through.  However she was drawn further and further into providing one last thing after which she had been assured she would receive the money.  Eventually Mary had invested so much that she was in financial need of this fraudulent “inheritance”. Finally, her family met together and lovingly and firmly confronted her and put a stop to everything.  Mary was sorry she had caused hurt and pain to her children.  She asked the Lord to forgive her for not listening. One of the verses that ministered to her is Psalms 37:23-24. The steps of a man are established by the Lord, and He delights in his way. When he falls he shall not be hurled headlong; because the Lord is the one who holds his hand. I do not know how much money Mary lost, I only know it was a lot and it has caused hardship for her.  But she is willing to share her experience on the radio as well as in the newsletter in order to help others.  Fraud seems to be everywhere, I urge you to be on the alert – Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.  1 Peter 5:8.  But when he comes he will not look like a roaring lion….  Con artists are very nice; that is how they con people. Here is some advice and help that Mary has given to our readers and radio listeners. Do not open any emails from sources you don’t know. If you are in anything like this, get out now!
