Dear Friends, A few more Devotions on the Go, remember to listen to the guitar strums between stories. ~~~BIG HORN SHEEP~~~ There is nothing quite as thrilling to me as a rare sighting of wild animals. My husband and I were up Big Sheep Creek in Montana doing some fishing when we saw a large group of animals that looked slightly different than deer. Grabbing our binoculars we were delighted to discover 20 to 30 Big Horn Sheep. The sheep had been hunted out of that area and had just recently been reintroduced to the Big Sheep Creek area by management authorities. The whole herd had come down for water and after having their drink, they began climbing back up the mountain. Very shortly afterwards, they were completely camouflaged in the rocks and shrubs. Though they were in plain sight, they blended with the rocks so completely that they were invisible to the naked eye. There are times in our lives when we want to be camouflaged, when we want to run and hide. The Bible says there was a time in Jesus’ life when an angry crowd intended to throw Him over a cliff, and He walked right through the middle of them and left. All in the synagogue were filled with rage as they heard these things; and they rose up and cast Him out of the city, and led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city had been built in order to throw Him down the cliff. But passing through their midst, He went His way. John 4:28-30. What a camouflage job. There are other times when we want someone to know we are there, that we are alive. You may feel like you are in an obscure place and as though no one knows you exist. It may be for your protection. Irene, a guest on A Woman’s Special Touch, was left as a young child in a boarding school. Her aunt was to come for her and Irene waited several years, feeling lonely and forgotten, not realizing her aunt had been put in a Chinese prison. Had she not been left, she no doubt would have spent those years in prison. What may not seem to be protection at the time may in later years be revealed as God’s protection, and you can say with the Psalmist, For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; in the secret place of His tent He will hide me. He will lift me up on a rock. Psalms 27:5. (Don’t miss the Big Horn Sheep at the bottom of the page) ~~~OAK TREE~~~ Did you know there are 275 different species of oak trees? Oak trees are known for their strength and their hard woods which are wonderful for making furniture that will last for centuries. Oak trees live for several hundred years and do not bear acorns until they are 20 years old. They are marvels of beauty, diversity, and endurance. Once, while my husband I were hiking, we came across an unusual oak tree. From one side it looked like a lovely oak tree with branches leafed out...a very nice specimen. But the other side revealed that the whole center of the tree was gone and obviously had been for some time. There may be things that have happened in your life that make you feel as though your whole insides have been ripped out. But if you are planted firmly in Jesus, you will go right on leafing out. Many will only see the leafy side. Others may glimpse the inside and marvel that you are still standing and will praise God. He alone can produce the enduring beauty we long for in our lives. ~~~ALTAMONT PASS~~~ One evening my husband and I were traveling over the Altamont Pass in California during commute traffic. We were in the fast lane when something seemed wrong with the car. Passing motorists began honking and pointing to the front tire. We worked our way over to the right-hand lane and found a place to pull off the road, grateful for a number of of which was that it was still daylight. After getting out the instruction manual, emptying the trunk to remove the spare tire, and locating the tool bag and jack, we read, “First remove the center cap from the wheel by prying it out with a common flat screwdriver (not provided in the tool bag).” Now, what if you do not have a “common” flat screwdriver? Who in their right mind provides a tool kit but doesn’t provide a way to get the hub cap off? Well, the way of salvation is completely provided in Jesus Christ. Nothing else is needed!!! ~~~Devotions on the Go~~~ Set #1, 2 & 3 are available for $5 each. Each CD has a running time of a little over 40 minutes.
