Dear Friends, California is facing a severe drought – the wildfire season has been intense as a result, hillsides are dry, and lakes and reservoirs are extremely low. Homeowners have been instructed to reduce their use of water. One way we’re conserving is to collect water in containers in the kitchen and bathroom sinks, which we carry out to water the plants. The ground is parched and much in need of rain and winter snow to bring restoration. In our lives we can also experience spiritual droughts – they can be caused by illness, poor relationships, money problems, or lack of wisdom and unlawful behavior. Sometimes these dry times test our faith and result in spiritual growth. Trials in the lives of unbelievers can bring them to realize their need for Christ. Spiritual droughts can come when we let other things crowd out your time with the Lord. In the ministry of A Woman’s Special Touch, we are also facing a serious drought of resources in which funds are low, but I was encouraged by the following scriptures. Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and whose trust is the Lord. For he will be like a tree planted by the water, that extends its roots by a stream and will not fear when the heat comes; but its leaves will be green, and it will not be anxious is a year of drought nor cease to yield fruit. Jeremiah 71:7-8 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. And he will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yield its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers. Psalms 1:1-3 The righteous man will flourish like the palm tree, he will grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still yield fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap and very green, to declare that the Lord is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him. Psalms 92:12-14 When Jesus and His disciples were passing through Samaria, Jesus became weary and sat down by a well. A Samaritan women came to the well to get water and Jesus asked her for a drink. This led to very interesting interchange. Jesus told her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” He went on to say, “Everyone who drinks of this water shall thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” John 4:10, 13, 14 Jesus had more to say relating to spiritual drought. “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me shall not hunger, and who believes in Me shall never thirst.” John 6:35 “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water.’” John 7:38 At A Woman’s Special Touch, we have received some interesting letters from a number of prisoners who listen to our program. I want to share with you an excerpt from one. “I am a federal inmate being held in solitary confinement. In 2011 I finally opened the door to Christ and let Him into my heart. I have never been more free than I am today – sitting in this jail cell. Because He has lifted the weight and burdens of all my sin and guilt from off my heart and shoulders, I am a New Creation in Christ. This incarceration has been a blessing to me because without it, I never would have been able to - or wanted to spend so much time in the Word.” In times of spiritual drought, our spirits as parched and we are much in need of living water to bring restoration. The secret is found in spending time in the word of God, in being still, and letting Him speak to your heart. ********* Praise and Prayer We are grateful for the opportunity to reach many people across the world.
